Hi,
How are you?
Let's take a moment to sit and chat about life, to think about our journey.....
So Mother's Day is about to be celebrated and it got me to thinking about how outdated the phrase is now. I mean yes most people can relate to the person who has raised them, guided them, listened and encouraged them but it does not always fall into the category of mother.
In an age where we need less labels and are getting more, surely this outdated event should at best be removed from the calendar. The family dynamics are diverse and one size does not fit all.
I mean to have to be told to celebrate on a set day and to then think this makes up for the other 360+ days in the year is not the concept we want right ? We want to be celebrating and thanking people everyday in little ways.
At worse we should at least be challenging the branding of this day to maybe,"nurture day",- where we can openly say a massive thank you to whoever that person was that cheered from the side line on a cold wet day, that stayed up and cried with you when your heart was first broken, that would go without so you could have.
We all know or at least I hope we can in the vast majority think back to a person who fits this category be it: dad, grandparent, foster parents, teacher , auntie or uncle, mum, sibling, local community support person. So by definition we should be reaching out and saying," Hey, I get it now , I appreciate everything you have done and I want you to know I care about you too."
So with the date around the corner let's not fester on the right card, the right gift, let's link in and communicate with the right person and have a moment! All anyone really wants in life ( especially as they get older) is to connect with people they love, so a call or a drop in and a random chat. Let your gift be you being present.
So let's start the movement and take the day back from the corporate businesses and think sustainability and community. Let's have the last laugh and keep the concept without the cards, the extra gifts , the profit margins and let's give ourselves, our time our minds and hearts and make memories for free.
Who knows where you would be if you had not had that support, that belief, that wonderful person by your side !
If you would like to explore this concept and be the best version you can be then reach out to journey life coaching for a tailored coaching session which can support you with your communication skills within family dynamics.
Till next time and remember it's the journey not the destination.....
