Hi,
How's it going?
How are you feeling right now?
When was the last time you stopped and paused for a moment? I know we are all restricted but does that mean we stop or pause or do we fill the moments with unproductive lists...?
I want to draw the year to a close by discussing "It's a Wonderful Life", something many of us may not be feeling, seeing or hearing right now but something that needs to be brought to the table.
The film, It's a Wonderful Life was made in 1946 and it has stood the test of time with it still easily sitting in the top 10 of Christmas films in many polls.
It's a film that tells the story of a young man, George Bailey, that struggles with his dreams of travelling against his moral compass of staying at home to take over the family business. It covers the mental struggle he faces. It comes to a head when he thinks about taking his life only to encounter his own guardian angel. The story then takes us into a future where we are able to see how the world would look had he not been born. All those acts of kindness he displayed in his life and how people have then managed to pay this forward really brings home the key message that, him not being born would have had a very negative impact on a lot of people.
The film is a classic and I try to use this mantra within my own life. Every year I take time out to see and ask myself...
What have I done?
How have I helped?
Who have I supported?
When have I been there for people?
And the BIG question, is the world a better place for me having been in it?
So go on take the "It's a Wonderful Life", challenge....
Have you taken time out to really listen to someone?
Have you given up your time to support someone?
Have you been kind - how and when?
Have you helped someone out?
Have you turned up and been present for a conversation when you have noticed someone is struggling?
Have you put your worries aside to help someone work on theirs?
Have you helped out financially with what you could afford to a charity?
Have you given more than you have taken this year in support?
We talk a lot about being carbon neutral but are we kindness positive?
If you have answered no to any of the above questions then maybe you have not been at your best in 2020 and that's ok because the bigger call out has to be, do you want to do better in 2021?
